October 7, 2019
Hey, hey friends! So we just got back from visiting all of the Fall foliage in Boston and Vermont, and it was highly requested that we share the details of our trip, so today I’m sharing our Boston and Stowe travel guide! We went a little early in the season for peak foliage (our trip was the last week of September), but we got to see lots anyways. I hear that the second week of October is ideal! Our trip layout was a little funny: we did 2 days in Boston, 1 night/2 days in Stowe, Vermont, and then went back to Boston for 2 days before heading home.
We flew into Boston first because it is the easiest direct flight from LA and spent the first two days exploring the city. There wasn’t much as far as Fall decor and foliage goes yet (we were early!), but the charm of the city was so fun. We stayed at the Sheraton in Back Bay, and I highly recommend it! The whole Back Bay neighborhood is such a fun spot to be because there are tons of restaurants and lots of shopping. There are streets of quintessential, charming East Coast homes, and you aren’t too far from Fenway, Beacon Hill, or the Boston Common. We really loved the central location so much that we actually came back to this hotel after visiting Vermont.
The first two days, we explored Boston on foot which I highly recommend doing! We shopped around Back Bay, grabbed lunch at sweetgreen, walked through the Beacon Hill neighborhood (and took a photo at the infamous Acorn Street!), and finished with dinner at Earl’s in the Prudential Building. We then walked over toward Fenway to grab a milkshake at our favorite ice cream shop in Boston, JP Licks!
Here were some of the places we ate (noted with a *) and things we did, as well as the most popular Boston recommendations I got from you guys on Stories:
Food & Drink: Lolita, Mike’s Pastries, Little Italy/North End, Yvonne’s*, Lincoln Tavern (brunch), Stephanie’s on Newbury, Citrus & Salt, Eataly, Regina’s Pizza, Tiger Mama, Tatte bakery, The Grotto, Earl’s*, Top of the Hub*
Things we did: Shopping on Newbury Street, Walk the Freedom Trail (self-guided tour that is so interesting!), Faneuil Hall & Quincy Market (fun place to grab lunch), Visit Harvard/Cambridge, Red Sox Game (we did this our last night), Fenway Park Tour (worth it!), Boston Common, view from Top of the Hub (you can eat here like we did! It’s kind of fancy but the view is beautiful. Keep in mind that it’s really pricey, so perfect for special date nights.)
We rented a car during the middle of our trip and drove to Stowe, Vermont to check out the fall foliage. Neither Daniel or I had seen the East Coast at peak Fall foliage time so it was beautiful to see! It was about a 3.5 hour drive from Boston to Stowe, but it isn’t too bad at all and you get to drive through New Hampshire. We only had about 24 hours in Stowe, so we didn’t stop along the way, but I hear New Hampshire is also gorgeous!
We stayed at Edson Hill in Stowe, and I can’t recommend it enough. It is the most gorgeous, while still quaint, bed and breakfast with only 23 rooms. It is tucked away about 5-10 minutes from downtown Stowe and literally the most beautiful property!!! Trust me when I say it is 100% worth it to stay here! The breakfast is included and it is gourmet! Our room was in the main house (the Manor House).
When we got there, we explored the property and then drove around. We specifically went looking for the Goold Brook covered bridge because I wanted to take this photo with it (basic 💁♀️), but it is really neat! We then just drove around exploring Stowe and checking out the town and leaves before heading back to Edson Hill to relax before dinner. Their living room area is gorgeous and you can have drinks before dinner. They also have a very highly rated restaurant on the property, but we didn’t eat there that night because we were craving something a little less fancy 😉.
We ended up eating at Piecasso and it was yummy! Not my favorite pizza, but the atmosphere was SO fun! They had trivia night while we were there in the bar, and a DJ was playing songs and you had to guess the song/artist. We had the best time!
The next day, we drove around in search of leaves before heading back to Boston. Lots of recommendations to to the drive the Auto Toll Road or take the gondola to the top of the mountain, but sadly it was raining that day so they said we wouldn’t be able to see much.
Honestly it is such a beautiful place to see the leaves and I am so glad I got to experience it! One day was long enough for me there because there’s not much to do, but it is stunning!
That was our trip! Super fun and I would definitely go back, just a few weeks different next time to catch the peak foliage! Let me know if there are any things that need to be added to this Boston & Stowe Travel Guide in the comments!
