Most of the top questions I get asked are about my hair: what products I use, how I curl it, etc. So today I’m starting a hair series to help answer these questions! I thought I’d start with my current hair products that I love. Next I’ll cover how I do my hair, and will reference back more to how I use these products while styling! I’ve said it before, but I am that girl that is always trying something new from Sephora, so over time I find new favorites. But, these are my tried and true favorite hair products!
After dying my hair too much in college, once I graduated I committed to taking better care of it. This included finally graduating from Garnier Fructis shampoo and conditioner and investing in higher quality products. (Don’t get me wrong, nothing wrong with Garner products, I just knew my hair needed more nourishment!) Anyways, I have noticed a huge difference in the health of my hair since I’ve made the switch!
I started with Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Shampoo + Conditioner. And while I really like those, I noticed that they weren’t giving my hair the nourishment that it needed and weren’t doing the best job protecting from breakage. I switched about 6-8 months ago to Oribe products and I don’t know if I will ever change it up again.
I use the Oribe Gold Lust Shampoo and Gold Lust Repair + Restore Conditioner. My hair has grown so much since I started using this and has honestly stopped breaking so easily. It is really pricey, but if your hair needs the nourishment, its worth every penny!!! I’ve also noticed that it helps maintain the health of my extensions. I’ve had extensions for a couple of years and with using the Oribe shampoo and conditioner, I don’t have to replace the hair as frequently.
I’m most excited to share that a few weeks ago I started using this Dyson hair dryer. There is so much hype around this blowdryer, and honestly I thought, “What could be so special? And why the heck does it cost so much?!” I’ve seen the blowdryer several times over the last year or so, but while I was perusing Sephora a couple of weeks ago, the girl who worked there convince me to just try it. Like I mentioned earlier, I have extensions, and drying my hair can take forever so honestly I was willing to try anything, and the girl reminded me how great Sephora’s return policy is 😉. Needless to say, I have been loving it and have no intention on returning it.
I would say that if you have thin hair that dries quickly, the price tag may not be worth it for you. However, if you have thick hair and hate the time it takes, it will seriously cut down dry time. The other hair type I would also advise to avoid the Dyson blowdryer is naturally dry or brittle hair. Because it dries so quickly, it can make your hair feel even more dry. I typically have oily hair, so this is a good thing for me, but just a heads up!
And it’s not too big of a deal, but the other thing that kind of bothers me is how thick the cord is. Nordstrom sells it HERE in a special case for the same price, and it’s way nicer to store the cord that way than just loose.
The other hair tool that I use daily is this t3 curling iron. I use the 1.5-inch barrel for loose waves, but if your hair is shorter than mine, the 1.25-inch should give you the same look! You can buy the curling iron with three different sized interchangeable barrels as a set HERE, or you can buy it just as a 1.25-inch iron HERE. It also comes in a wand trio set if you prefer to use a wand versus an iron. Note: I’m working on an updated “how I curl my hair” post/video, but here is the previous one I did. My current routine is almost identical, except with the t3 curling iron.
Rarely do I use a straighter, but when I do I use this ghd 1″ Styler. I have had it forever and it still works like brand new.
I only own three brushes, but I swear by them all! First and foremost, if you don’t have a Wet Brush…you need one! They are extremely inexpensive (you can find them at Target), and brush easily through tangles. I use mine when I get out of the shower, after I spray this detangling spray through it. Having extensions, my hair gets tangled so easily and I swear by this brush even more so now than I did before.
Next are two brushes I use for drying. First, I use a large round brush to create volume at the crown of my head. I lift up the hair and dry the root upward to add lots of volume. Next I dry the shaft of the hair against this paddle brush. It has a metal hating element on the inside of the paddle that helps dry the hair even quicker. It also prevents knots and tangles if you blow-dry your hair while brushing through it.
I mentioned above, but the first styling product I use on my wet hair right out of the shower is this detangling/heat protectant spray. After I brush through it with my wet brush, I apply this Bumble + Bumble Volumizing Mousse to the crown of my head. And after curling, I add about a quarter size drop of Moroccan Oil to the palm of my hand and work it through my curls with my fingers. Lastly, if I’m going for extra texture, I spray this Oribe Dry Texturizing spray through my curls. If you’re going to spend money on one styling product, make it this Texturizing Spray!!! I have not been able to find anything on the market that compare to the texture and volume it creates.
And I can’t possibly do a post on hair products without mentioning my holy grail dry shampoo. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo is the best dry shampoo ever…and I’ve tried a zillion. Haha, okay maybe only a hundred, but still. It leaves no residue and is worth every penny. I apply it before I go to bed so that it absorbs the oils my hair creates overnight and leaves me with no residue in the morning.
What are some of your favorite hair products? I would love to hear your suggestions because like I said, I’m always looking to try out new products!
