Happy Monday! Can’t think of a better way to get back to the grind than to share my workout routine with you today! Almost everyone I know has started a new (or improved) workout regimen with the new year, and I’ve tried to add a little to mine as well!
And I don’t think it’s a secret that new workout clothes motivate anybody to get to the gym! I got these leggings about a week ago, and have washed and worn them twice since. With workout clothes, I typically stick to a black/gray palette, so these were right up my alley! [I also picked up this pair that is reversible] I am a huge fan of working out in high waisted leggings, so it’s pretty much all I buy!
And there are definitely those days that I get dressed to go to the gym but never end up making it there 😉, so looking cute doesn’t hurt! But when I do make it all the way there, this is my routine. Please keep in mind, that I am in no way a trainer or claiming to advise in exercise. This is just my routine and what I’ve found works best for my body. Everyone is completely different!
I like to start my week with a workout first thing Monday morning. Not only does it get me feeling better from what I may have eaten over the weekend, but I feel like it just helps motivate me in general. My focus seems to be better throughout the day, and anytime I have a focused and efficient Monday, the rest of my week goes so much easier!
On Monday mornings, I take a SoulCycle class. SoulCycle is hands down my favorite workout and helps aid in the motivation I’m seeking to take into the rest of my week. If you haven’t tried one, you need to; it’s definitely an addictive experience! I’ve tried many other cycling classes, and there really isn’t one I like anywhere near as much.
At 7:30a.m. I workout with a trainer on Tuesdays and Thursdays at a local gym. Working out alone in a gym isn’t my thing at all. I feel completely lost, and no matter what great ideas I have walking in, after about 30 minutes on the elliptical I’m always like, “Okay, that was good! I’m done.” And walk out the door…haha!
So, having a trainer not only keeps me focused, but keeps my workouts well rounded. Before seeing my trainer, my entire workout regimen consisted of only cardio, and he is helping me bring weight lifting into each workout. Honestly, I have no idea how to lift weights on my own, so having someone just tell me what to do (and make sure I’m doing it correctly so I won’t hurt myself) is crucial!
Trainers can be pretty pricey, so I do a “mini group” session. There’s about four girls in my group, and honestly I prefer it to a solo training session because while I’m doing each exercise, he is setting someone else up so I don’t feel like I’m being started at and waited on the whole time…haha! It also cuts the price in quarters making it so much more manageable!
Typically I take Wednesdays off. It’s important to have rest days in between workouts, so unless I’m feeling an abnormal amount of stress from work and need to just work out to clear my head, I don’t do anything. I like having my rest day in the middle of the week because I can catch up on what I may feel behind from on Monday/Tuesday and get ready for the second half of the week!
I work out with my trainer again on Thursdays. He does a completely different circuit every time we work out, so if when I’m sore from Tuesday’s workout, it’s not a big deal since we are focusing on different muscle groups.
Going into the weekend feels so much better if I get a workout in on Fridays. I usually take a SoulCycle class again (told you they’re my favorite!), or do some form of intense cardio for an hour. Helps me feel less guilty about whatever plans we may have over the coming weekend!
I usually don’t work out over the weekend. Four days a week is pretty much all my body can handle. I’m super sore and exhausted at the end of the week when I stick to the above plan, so I like to give my muscles two consecutive days to heal and rest before starting all over again Monday morning 😉.
What are your tips and tricks for staying in shape? Do you have a favorite workout? Let me know in the comments so I can try it out!
