How I Cover Up Hormonal Breakouts

Lately I’ve been seriously struggling with hormonal acne.  I think it’s primarily from all of those wonderful postpartum hormones I’ve got going on.  Regardless of the culprit, covering it up is a necessity if I want to feel confident going out of the house right now and so I have been on the hunt for something that will work.  As far as coverups go, I’ve been really looking for something that will last all day.  I tried lots of products and they either weren’t enough coverage or faded by mid-day.  And the last thing you need when trying to cover up a hormonal breakout is your coverage fading quickly 😉.

After switching up my foundation multiple times to see if that would do the trick, I was at a loss.  I knew I didn’t really want to switch up my foundation because I love it so much.  The medium-full coverage and satin finish are perfect for my skin type.  Ultimately I knew I just needed a good spot concealer to wear underneath.

I came across this Full-Face Perfector by Trish McEvoy while I was on the hunt, and decided to try it out.  I ordered “Shade 2” because when trying to conceal blemishes and spots, you want to avoid using something lighter than your skin tone.  This is why using your under-eye concealer isn’t a good idea.  Typically that is brighter and highlights the skin under your eyes, and the last thing you want to do is “highlight” your blemish spots 😂.  So, pick a color that will match your skin tone, and if it doesn’t match exactly, go with the darker shade rather than the lighter.

This product has been an absolute game-changer, and the only thing I’ve found to effectively cover up hormonal breakouts! As far as application goes, after finishing with my skincare, I apply it as the first step of my makeup routine.  To apply, I twist the pen so that some of the product comes up onto the sponge applicator.  I brush it onto the blemish spots I want to cover up, and then with a damp BeautyBlender I bounce and push the product into my skin (the key is to “push” it into the skin, rather than a wiping or stroking motion!).  This creates a layer on top of the blemish that completely covers up the redness.  I do this all over my face, wherever I am trying to cover up blemishes and dark spots.

Once the broken out spots on my face are covered, I then continue with my regular under-eye concealer and foundation routine.  This is now a second layer that locks in the Full-Face Perfector I used for spot coverage.  This combination and lasts me all day and keeps the blemishes covered up!

As far as beauty products go, I always buy new-to-me products like this Trish McEvoy Correct and Even Full-Face Perfector at Nordstrom.  They are so wonderful about returns, that I have no worry in buying because I know they will stand behind it if I am unhappy for any reason.  So, definitely try this Full-Face Perfector out!  You will love it for those days (or weeks 😉) that you need a little extra coverage.  Hormonal breakouts really are the worst, but honestly I feel so much more confident now that I have this tool to cover them up!
