Jumpsuits are probably one of the biggest Summer trends, but definitely can be one of the finicky in my experience.  There I times when I look at someone on the street and think, “Gosh, that girl nailed it.  She looks incredible in that jumpsuit!” and then I put one on and think, “Okay, how can I not make this look like a garbage bag?”  In my experience, if they aren’t styled right, it’s one of two looks: garbage bag or five year old.

For this reason, I was hesitant to jump on the trend bandwagon, but when I saw this striped off-the-shoulder one from Nordstrom I had to try it.  I originally put it on and didn’t care for it, but once I styled it right I couldn’t get enough!  So people, the key to jumpsuits is 100% styling!  And if I can wear one, so can you!

Heels

The key piece to styling a jumpsuit is adding a shoe with some sort of heel height.  This immediately takes it from making it look stumpy to making you look six feet tall, especially if the legs are wide like they are on this one.  I have had these nude lace-up block heels for over a year and they get so much wear because of the neutral color.  I would highly recommend them if you typically have a hard time with heels because of the shorter, thick block heel.  You should have no problems wearing them all day long!

A Defined Waistline

The second key element in styling them is to make sure that the waist is defined.  That was made super simple with this jumpsuit because it had elastic around the waist, as a lot of them do!  But you could easily accomplish this with any jumpsuit by adding a belt.  I loved how the top part of this one sort of draped over the wait to create a really relaxed look, but the waist was still definitely defined.

Accessories

And the last thing I think really helps elevate them is accessorizing!  Typically you have multiple pieces that make up an outfit (i.e. jeans, a top, a sweater, etc.), but with a jumpsuit it’s one single piece.  Because of this, it can look pretty boring without accessories.  Here I added this super cute blue bag that I just got for under $65 and my favorite earrings that totally match the little pom fringe trim on the ruffle of the jumpsuit!
