We had a ninety degree weekend in L.A. this past weekend, and to say it gave us an enticing taste of Summer would be an understatement!  I have been transitioning my closet from long sleeves and sweaters to Summer dresses and shorts over the past few warmer weeks, and this Rebecca Minkoff dress is one of my favorites I’ve gotten this season.  It inspired me to share with you my three favorite simple ways to take any Summer dress from day to night!

1. A Denim Jacket

The easiest way to “warm up” a light and flowy dress is by throwing a denim jacket overtop.  During the Summer months, I keep one in my car because they go with pretty much everything and if we are out later and it gets cooler, I won’t have to freeze!  You most likely already have one in your wardrobe that will work, but if not this one that I am wearing by Madewell is such great quality and is a perfect medium wash.  It is a pretty sturdy denim with not much stretch, but if you prefer something stretchier try this one from Anthropologie.  I completely believe that a denim jacket is a closet staple that won’t ever go out of style, so you can feel safe investing in one, but if you’re on a budget, this one is under $40 and is a great option!

2. Flats to Heels

On a hot Summer day, the last thing I want to be wearing with my flowy dress is a pair of heels.  I don’t know about you, but to me that just sounds so uncomfortable…haha!  I love pairing my dresses with a cute pair of flat sandals like these slides or this lace-up pair, and then throwing on a cute pair of heels when we head to dinner.  This pair I am wearing here is such a great Summer option because of the fact that they just slip on.  The chunky heel keeps it causal and makes it really easy to wear and walk in.  I just bought this pair made by the same brand because of how much I wear these!

3. Statement Jewelry

On hot days, my main goal is to keep things light and airy.  You typically won’t see me wearing much statement jewelry and sticking to minimal pieces like this initial necklace and these stud earrings.  But, when I do want to dress it up a bit, finding a lightweight pair of statement earrings does the trick!  These Kendra Scott Lacy earrings are super light and go with everything!  They come in gold, rose gold, and silver to match whatever jewelry you currently wear.  And if you’re more into color, these tassel earrings are such a fun Summer option, are lightweight, and come in tons of color options.  I just ordered the yellow!
