It’s a long standing joke in my family that I refuse to spend money on basics; translation: the things I actually need. For example, I pride myself on the fact that to this day I still have never actually paid for body wash. You know those coupons you get in the mail from Bath & Body Works? Well, I am living proof that a girl can live on those. [Sidenote: I do shower. They just send out those coupons so often. Poor marketing, Bath & Body Works, but please continue 😂]
When it comes to basics, I just don’t get excited about spendingthe money on them. I would much rather buy a Free People dress and some new heels than a sports bra and some workout leggings. Daniel finally forced me into buying new sports bras after the ones from Target that I had been using for years were literally cutting my skin. This sports bra changed my life, and I now realize why people spend money on the things they wear most! #LateToTheParty
It kind of opened my eyes to the fact that quality basics are worth the price tag because I am going to be wearing them more than anything else in my closet and they really do make a huge difference when it comes to comfort. But, if I can get them on a deal, you better believe I still will 😉
With the Anniversary Sale in full swing, Nordstrom has so many classic items that you can add to your closet (or replace old with!). Starting with the most basic, undergarments. I was the girl up until a couple ofyears ago was all about the Victoria’s Secret Pink Panty Parties, but no more! Try these Hanky Panky panties, and you will be a cult follower! You wear them every single day, so they should be the most comfy thing in your closet. And for the record, there is a huge difference.
My friends have raved for years about the Natori ‘Feathers’ bra, and I was so excited to see that it was included in the sale this year. I love how low the neckline is, so you don’t have to worry about it hanging out of your v-neck tops, and it comes in so many colors! Not to mention, it’s gorgeous!
As far as basic tees and tops go, you need to have a few basic, solid long-sleeves in your closet for Fall/Winter, and now is the perfect time to stock up. They won’t be on sale later, and at $17.90 you can afford to pick up a few solids and a stripe! These short-sleeve tees are the same price and perfect for under a cardigan like this one as we transition into Fall.
Hands down the most exciting thing in the entire Anniversary Sale line-up are these jeans! If you’ve been following along for a little while you know I swear by this cut and own them in 4 or 5 washes already. And you better believe these made their way into my closet, too. If you’re looking for jeans on a budget, but still better quality than Forever 21 or Target, check this pair out! I got these as well, just make sure you size down one whole size.
Another basic that are a “must have” are these plain black leggings! You can wear them to workout, or under tunics and sweaters with riding boots in the fall and winter.
Living in California my whole life, I am not used to having to spend money on heavy coats or jackets. And I know it feels so funny buying things for cold weather when it’s over 90 degrees every day, but this peacoat is too cute not to have this Winter. And at $100?! Yes, please!
I also like to invest in something timeless to add to my wardrobe during the sale. If you’re in the market for one, my mom got this brown leather jacket and it is absolutely stunning. Last year, I added these Tory Burch riding boots to my closet and have gotten so much use out of them. They are still in perfect condition…perks of buying good quality! You can see them in this post along with some other basics I got during the sale.
Lastly, I know we all need professional work clothes, but it’s so much more fun to spend the extra money on “fun” clothes, so the Sale is the perfect time to shop for these. Basics like this shift dress, this Lush top, this blazer, or these classic pumps can easily be mixed and matched with your current work wardrobe and won’t break the bank!
There are so many more to list, but make sure you check out all my favorite basic picks in the widget below!
