At the beginning of this year, I shared with you my workout routine for 2018 where I do strength and resistance in a small group setting at my gym three days a week, you can read that post here.
So many of you have asked what my pregnancy workout routine has been, and it’s the same! I still train at the gym three days a week, I still go to SoulCycle twice a week, and sometimes I swap out one of those for an at-home personal training session as I get ready to transition into this new season of life with a baby! I know after he is born, I’m going to take time off from my routine at the gym and spin class, and I want to know I have something that I love to help get me regain my fitness at home when I’m ready.
Keeping my body in the routine that it was already used to has been such a blessing, and I think made all the difference with how smoothly this pregnancy is gone. While I don’t have anything to compare it to, I also don’t have any complaints! I feel great and baby boy is doing amazing, so I really couldn’t be happier.
I’ve been with my trainer and small training group for over a year, so my trainer knows me pretty well now. We have had to make a few adjustments to my training, like running on the treadmill, since it doesn’t feel quite the same as it used to (hello potty breaks!), and it’s important that I keep my heart rate feeling comfortable. My sessions at the gym usually consist of a circuit with plyometric exercises, resistance bands or dumbbells and it has helped me to gain so much more strength than I ever had before. If you’re thinking a personal trainer or small group training might be too expensive, or maybe you don’t have a gym near you, don’t worry! Keep reading because I had a great option to share with you!
SoulCycle has been a favorite of mine for years. I’ve been going to my local studio since it opened! I love that I can really challenge myself, and it’s only 45 minutes long. The instructors at my studio play the best music and that always helps to make the class even more fun. Something that has changed a little bit since being pregnant is that I’m not pushing myself at the same intensity I did. I still make sure I get a good ride in, but I love that I can really control my ride without feeling like I’m falling behind or disturbing anyone else’s workout.
The newest part of my fitness routine has been through a personal training app called Ladder. I wanted to start adding a few at-home workouts to my routine to get ready for Baby Denner’s arrival. What drew me to Ladder, was that they have real personal trainers for you to choose from, and I can do the workouts anywhere, not just at home. I can do them while we’re traveling and I’m away from my regular routine.
After downloading the Ladder app from the app store (HERE) you’ll go through a simple questionnaire, then you’ll get to select a trainer who matches your goals, and will then put workouts together for you. I love that Ladder has the option for you to select if you are pre-natal or postpartum, so I know I’m choosing from trainers that have experience working with pregnant clients. I matched with and chose Kenzie as my trainer, who is a mom of two! Ladder also has an accountability feature, where your coach will check in with you if you missed a workout. If you have a gym membership, your workouts can even be gym-based with machines and equipment in your gym.
My friends at Ladder have given me a code to share with you to get a FREE trial, and 20% off any membership option after that!
Download the app HERE and use code: DENNER when you sign up!
