I didn’t really start to even think about planning Rhett’s 1st birthday party until about two weeks before. We had known forever that we wanted to do a construction themed birthday party since our family business is in construction, but that was where my ideas ended. Needless to say, I had intended on keeping it super simple and low-key.
And then I saw Pinterest pictures of balloon garlands and everything simple went right out the door 😂 Rhett is obsessed with balloons right now so I knew he would love it, and we have the perfect entryway for it. The Monday before his party, we combed through Amazon and Etsy and found the perfect balloon garland that would be delivered by Friday with plenty of time for us to assembly it for the party. TIP: filter Etsy sellers by your state if you want to get something quickly without having to pay rush shipping fees!
If you’re planning on having one at your next party, I HIGHLY recommending getting a balloon air pump from Amazon. We used this one and it was a lifesaver. I don’t know how we would have blown up all those balloons for the balloon garland with a hand pump! It would have taken forever!
Since I was kind of going all out with balloons, I kept the rest of the décor pretty simple and adding tons of yellow excavators, backhoes and trucks to the tabletops, as balloon weights and even as serving dishes.
We had Rhett’s favorites: Chick-Fil-A nuggets, my mom’s mac and cheese, and Nothing Bunt Cakes. My friend made his adorable smashcake and we got the felt bunting, hat and banner on Etsy! I couldn’t find a first birthday milestone board that I liked, so Lyssa made this one for him totally custom!
We put everything together in less than two weeks and I’m pretty proud of how it all came together! And I’m totally NOT a party planner at all! It was so fun to have my family over and celebrate our little guy.

Loved how Rhett’s birthday party came together! How many feet was your balloon Garland?
It was 20 feet!
I took screenshots of your story that day because we have the same party coming up next month. So thankful for this sweet blog post! It turned out beautiful!
