With Valentine’s Day next week, we thought it would be super fun to share some ideas of how to celebrate the day of love: whether you’re single or in a relationship! So today Mattea and I are tag-teaming this post for what to do on Valentine’s Day no matter what your relationship status is! And don’t worry, none of them are quite as basic as “dinner and a movie” 😉. Showing the people around you that you love them is important no matter what, and that’s why we love celebrating Valentine’s Day so much!
Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Wednesday this year, going out for a big celebration just might not fit into the schedule nicely. I know Daniel typically works late, and so this year I’m planning on making an super fun, fancy steak dinner right at home on Wednesday night! Go all out with candles, balloons, music, and fancy glasses. It totally makes it way more fun and really special!
We probably will end up going out on the weekend to celebrate as well, but I love this idea for the “actual day” because it can be super crowded. Honestly, you don’t get the best service, and the food typically isn’t as good just because of how busy it is. And it’s usually twice as expensive!
A day date is something I have been wanting to do with Daniel for such a long time, and I think next weekend we will finally do it to “celebrate” Valentine’s Day. Or at least that’s my excuse…haha! Basically a day date is just setting aside a whole day to hang out. We are so busy, and typically our dates are just at night. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I just think that it will be so fun to spend a dedicated day hanging out and putting all our “to-do’s” aside.
My ultimate “day date” is a Disneyland trip, but it could be as simple as getting coffee, walking on the beach, and going window shopping! Just taking time to hang out with no agenda other than being together is so special and something Daniel and I need to do more often.
With the fact that Valentine’s Day is on a Wednesday, and doing something extravagant might just not be in the cards this year, an at-home game night would be super fun! Go to Target and grab a new game or two, and spend the night playing them together! Order pizza, make popcorn, and eat candy! Another super inexpensive way to have so much fun.
You could always tack this on after your fancy dinner at home, which is what Daniel and I might do because I think it sounds like a blast! We’re totally oldies when it comes to games and love to play cards; Gin Rummy is our favorite!
Celebrate your ladies! I, Mattea, love breakfast, so any chance I get to be with people I love and eat the meal that I love is a win-win. If you’ve watched Parks & Rec, you know that Leslie Knope LOVES Galentine’s, and why not follow in her footsteps by treating your girlfriends out to brunch and giving them some simple gifts to make sure they feel loved. Start the day a little later, relax, and spend some quality time with your girls.
And honestly, even if you are married, there’s nothing more that says “I love and appreciate you” to your friends or even coworkers than taking them out to eat and just spending quality time together.
If you didn’t know, Daryl-Ann doesn’t like hiking, so I’m happy that I get to share my love for hiking with you all. I know Valentine’s Day is on a Wednesday this year, but you’d be surprised at how much good a sunset hike after work does for your soul. Grab your friends or family, you’re newest and cutest workout gear (if you need to go shopping, check here), and hit the trails!
I’ve found too that spending some alone time with God on a hike, with some worship music playing in my headphones, reminds me that although this season of singleness isn’t ideal, there is still a guy out there that loves me no matter how many times I fail or turn my back on Him.
Six dollar face masks from Sephora ARE. MY. FREAKING. LIFE. I’m not really into bubble baths honestly, but if that’s your thing, DO IT. Buy your favorite nail color from Target, some dinosaur chicken nuggets (maybe that’s a 22 year-old thing…or just a Mattea thing…) and put your fave Rom-Com on and just relax. Not only is a spa night going to help you attract your future man, you’re welcome, slowing down is actually SO helpful for you mind, body, and soul.
Another thing you should do prior to a spa night is go shopping! There’s nothing better in my opinion than taking care of my skin/body and then having some SUPER CUTE clothes to wear the next day for work. Sometimes you have to feel yourself, queue Beyonce song, and have confidence in yourself! Having confidence on Valentine’s Day is the best medicine, especially if you’re as single as a pringle, like me (Mattea, duh).
Tell us in the comments: what was your favorite Valentine’s Day to date? What are your plans for next Wednesday?!
