How to Make Your Eyelashes Look Longer

I don’t think that there has ever been a girl in all of history that would say, “You know, I’m just not a fan of long eyelashes.”  Every woman I have ever met has wanted longer lashes and done just about whatever she could to make it happen.
Over the years we’ve graduated from falsies, to Latisse [I totally remember when you had to have a prescription for it…anyone else?], to now the ever-popular eyelash extensions.  Doesn’t it feel like every girl and her momma has them?!
For me, I think they look great the first week or two, but after that I’m not a fan of how sparse and spider-y they become.  Not to mention the damage they can do, or the price!  (Totally my opinion!  I have tons of friends who love and swear by them)
Lash Serum: neuLASH | Mascara Primer: Dior | Mascaras: CoverGirlDior
The most frequent question I get asked is whether or not my lashes are real, so today I thought I would share my tips and tricks for making your totally normal lashes look like extensions.  While it may not be as easy and convenient as extensions, I think the trade off is worth it.
Just want to also note: I have completely normal lashes without mascara on.  Unfortunately I wasn’t blessed with those super think, dark, long lashes that some people have.  But that’s okay, because if you’re like me, there’s hope for you too, girl!
Lash Serum
Without a doubt, the key to my long lashes is this nueLASH lash serum!  I’ve been using it for a little over a year and even though it’s definitely not cheap, it’s worth every single penny.  The larger tube will last you about six months and it’s about the same price as one set of lash extensions.  I’m currently on my third large tube.
I line my upper lash line with a thin coat of it as the last step of my skincare routine each night.  I’ve heard stories of other serums discoloring your eyelids or burning and this absolutely does neither of those.  In fact, you don’t even notice it at all (other than the results!).
Within the first month I noticed a huge difference in the length/thickness of my natural lashes.  So if you are trying it out, be a little patient.  You definitely won’t see something overnight, but I would say  within two weeks you should begin to see some results.
Mascara Primer
I can think of a bunch of other steps I would rather skip in my makeup routine each morning before I would skip this one.  No joke, I don’t think I even know how to put on mascara without using a primer anymore!
This is essentially like a white mascara that you put on before your normal mascara.  It creates a base layer that thickens your lashes and allows the mascara to stick better.  And even though it’s an extra step, it takes a significant shorter time to achieve thick, long lashes when you use this Diorshow Maximizing primer.
I put it on my upper and lower lashes (lower not for length or volume, but I find I get less “residue” under my eye from my mascara as the day goes on), and allow it to set for 30-60 seconds before layering my regular mascara on top.  You need to give it this little bit of time to allow it to “harden” and become a bit tacky so your mascara will stick to it.
Mascara
The last step of my lash routine is your typical mascara step.  I do something a bit different and layer two mascaras because I find that I get the benefits of both when I do it this way!  I start with the CoverGirl Lashblast Fusion mascara in ‘Very Black’ on top of the primer, and then layer with the Diorshow Lash Extension Effect mascara after letting the first one dry for about 30 seconds.
When it comes to mascaras, some have a more “dry” formula and others are more liquid-y.  I tend to prefer formulas that are more dry and always layer the most dry last when layering mascaras.  So in this case, Diorshow is the most dry.  Hope that makes sense!
Honestly, if you’re looking to achieve this look on a budget, I say buy the primer and stick with drugstore mascaras!  Trust me, the primer makes all the difference!
Hope this helps you achieve the look of lash extensions without the damage or cost associated with them!  Please let me know if you have any questions I can answer or any life-changing tips you’ve come up with that I may want to try out as well!
