Let’s face it, coming home from vacation is never easy. Even when we came home from our honeymoon to all the fun gifts and our new house together, I was a bit sad! But, I think after this trip I’ve found a recipe to make coming home not so bad [or at least as good as you can make it!].
1. Come home on a Friday
I know this sounds silly if you could stay a few more days and not take time off work, but if you are only planning on staying a week wherever you are off to, leave the first weekend, and come home before the second! We left on a Friday and came home the following Friday to a weekend off work! Not only does this soften the blow of coming home [who doesn’t love weekends?!], but it gives you time to unpack, do laundry, and even do something fun! I was able to get all our clothes washed and put away and the house cleaned up so I feel ready for the week! We even got to hang out with friends and go to dinner for Mother’s Day! If we would have come home Sunday night, not only would I be majorly dreading that Monday (double whammy), but I would feel super behind all week!
2. Unpack right when you get home
The first thing you want to do after traveling home (especially if the travel was long!), is relax and do nothing. But, if you get home with enough time in the day, I have found it feels so much better to get everything unpacked and put away (even it’s just sorted in laundry hampers) right away. If I don’t unpack the first little bit when I get home, it’s pretty much a guarantee that the suitcase will sit there for a week. We happened to get home late at night, but first thing the next morning I made sure to get started, or else I know I would have been crossing my outfits for the next week right out of that same suitcase 😉
3. Clean your house before you leave
Prepping for a trip is work in and of itself, but if you have extra time (or can pack early and make some extra time), clean your house! It may seem silly to clean it when no one will be there for a week, but it is the best feeling to come home to a clean home! We have done both, left the house a complete disaster because we were packing at the last second and throwing things everywhere & fully clean, and let me tell you, when you walk in to a clean home, it makes all the difference! Just a tip: If you can, build a little extra money into your vacation budget and have your house cleaned just before you leave! Definitely worth the little bit of extra money and you won’t have to allot the extra time to do it while you’re busy getting everything else ready!
These are just some of the tips that made this trip a little easier to come home from! The last [full] day of our trip, I wore this cute little one-piece suit and cover-up, primarily because I felt like I needed a little extra coverage after eating yummy dinners out for a full week!! Not to mention the desserts every night 😉 Sometimes finding a one-piece that looks cute is a bigger feat than finding a bikini, but this one is perfect! And I love that it doesn’t run extremely small (you can buy your usual top/dress size, unlike most swimsuits!); for reference, I’m wearing the XS. This sun hat was my favorite hat I brought; it’s the perfect amount of “floppy,” if you know what I mean 😉 and it’s under $30!
Hope you all have a happy Monday! Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by! Do you have any tricks or tips that make coming home from vacation any easier?
