The Hunt for the Best T-Shirt

Why is it that finding basic t-shirts can be so tough?!  It seems like they should be the easiest thing to shop for because everyone has to have them, right?  Nope!  Finding good tees has always been tough for me; they’re either too tight, too sloppy, too boxy, etc.  So, to help both you and me out I set on a hunt to find the best t-shirt!  And after ordering more than I can count (at all price points!) I found quite a few ones I am loving and have added to my own personal closet.  Below you’ll find my favorite finds including everything from your super basic everyday tee to fun twists on basics you’ll wear all Summer long!

Free People Take Me Tee | size xs | $58 (solid) $68 (stripe)

Brown Tee: Free People | Black/White Stripe Tee: Free People | Black Jeans: Revolve | Blue Jeans: Good American | Shoes: Tory Burch | Phone Case: Sonix

In the Summer, oversized v-neck tees are my go-to!  Whether it’s with shorts, jeans, etc. they are the easiest thing to throw on and go!  Every Summer I am on the hunt for a good one, and this year I found it!  This Free People Take Me Tee is the best.  It is just the right amount of oversized  without being sloppy, and does the perfect “front tuck.”  I have both the solid (multiple colors) and striped versions and love them both!

Urban Outfitters V-Neck Peplum Tee | size xs | $34

Tee: Urban Outfitters | Jeans: Nordstrom | Sandals: Steve Madden | Phone Case: Sonix

Whenever I wear this peplum tee, I get tons of questions about it!  It is such a fun twist on a basic tee, and the oversized peplum fit is flattering on just about everybody.  It does run a bit big, so if you are between sizes, I would definitely go with your smaller size.  I love it with everything from white jeans to regular old blue jeans.  It’s a bit too long on me to wear without completely covering my shorts, so I stick to jeans with this one!

Free People Jordan Burnout Tee | size xs | $58

Tee: Free People | Jeans: Good American | Sandals: Steve Madden | Phone Case: Sonix

Speaking of fun twists on your basic tee, this cutout tee is so fun and stylish!  I was hesitant to order this tee because I am typically not a fan of burnout.  Sometimes it can be see through, but I am so glad that I went ahead and ordered this one anyways.  The cutout isn’t too low that you have to worry about it, but it definitely adds a lot to an otherwise extremely basic white tee.  In my opinion, this is the most stylish tee of all the ones I found!  I am debating ordering it in the olive green color, too!

Madewell V-Neck Whisper Tank | size xs | $18.50 (solid) $22.50 (stripe)

Tank: Madewell (solid version HERE) | Jeans: Nordstrom | Sandals: Steve Madden | Phone Case: Sonix

Okay, so I know this one isn’t necessarily a “t-shirt” but I had to include it because I have never found a tank like this.  It is your “basic v-neck tee” of tank tops and can be worn with everything!  I love how simple it pairs with these white jeans, but I will definitely be wearing it will tons of shorts this Summer.  I ordered it in this stripe version, as well as a couple of solid colors (there are literally tons to choose from!).  For $20, you definitely need more than one of these!

Chelsea28 Ruffle Sleeve Tee | size xxs | $29-49 (some colors on sale)

Tee: Nordstrom | Jeans: Good American | Sandals: Tory Burch | Phone Case: Sonix

Ruffles have been finding their way into my wardrobe quite a bit recently.  When I saw this cute ruffle sleeve tee, I had to try it out.  It was so soft that I ended up wearing it with sweatpants on our flight to Italy!  I love the “V” cut in the back!  It adds so much to the tee (especially if you want to throw your hair up in a ponytail).  Several of the colors are on sale right now (including white) for under $30, so be sure to snag them while they are still available.  And just a heads up, this tee runs pretty big so you may want to size down!

Universal Thread V-Neck Tee | size xs | $8

Tee: Target | Jeans: Good American | Sandals: Steve Madden | Phone Case: Sonix

if you’re on the hunt for the basic tee, this is it.  No frills, nothing too special, but an awesome fitting tee that you can wear with or under anything.  Unlike so many that I have tried, the v-neck isn’t cut too low on this tee and it is so easy to wear.  It’s not too much of a “boyfriend” style or oversized cut, but it does have a little extra room if you order your normal size (this is an xs).  I own this in multiple colors, and at the $8 price tag, you can’t beat it!!

Free People Cloud Nine Tee | size xs | $48

Tee: Free People | Jeans: Good American | Sandals: Tory Burch | Phone Case: Sonix

Okay, softest tee….EVER.  Honestly there is not a single t-shirt in my closet I would rather throw on when I want to be comfortable over this one.  The material is made of the most whips soft cotton.  You easily could (and probably will) sleep in this one!  I pair mine with a simple pair of boyfriend jeans and slide sandals when I want a cute, laid-back look.  Recently I started wearing this baseball cap with it on the weekends and I am so comfy!

Such amazing choices! I think I like the brown/mustardy shirt the most it looks so soft (and of course I love Free People)! 😉 So perfect for summer!
