What I’m Packing in My Hospital Bag

I had my baby just a little over 5 weeks ago and although I had an epidural, I got the shakes super bad from the contractions. I couldn’t feel them, but my whole body and mouth were shaking uncontrollably, even while I was pushing. I ended up throwing up which then left a terrible taste in my mouth. I had my husband run out to the waiting room to ask family members for a stick of gum…none of them had any but thankfully a nice lady who was also waiting gave him some and I’ll tell you, the gum was like an energy boost for me! I delivered our little guy within minutes of getting that gum in my mouth!😂

You can probably leave the tucks/witch hazel/dermaplast at home…the hospital will provide all of that and give you some to take with you! Don’t waste your own supply 😂

This post is amazing! Thank you for writing this! I’m 2 weeks out from my due date and my main goal this week was to pack all the bags. Until I saw your post I was pulling ideas from multiple Pinterest posts, getting discouraged and putting it off another day, but this really sums it all up! One thing I’ve heard from so many people (and I’m not sure why hospitals don’t supply these, or maybe your hospital will? But mine does not) they suggest a nail file because the baby can have very long nails when born but don’t suggest to cut them with fingernail clippers simply because if you snag their skin it could get infected. Again, thank you so much for sharing!

I’m pregnant with my third and it sounds like you’ve got a great list of necessities! The only thing I would add your own pillow (with a pillowcase you don’t mind leaving at the hospital). After my first, my neck and back hurt so much from those paper thin pillows! I brought my own pillow for my next baby and was soooo happy to have it! Also, print out a copy of the checklist you made at the bottom of the post so you or hubby can check off items as you repack them so you don’t forget anything. You’ll both be in a bit of a fog and it will be nice not to have to really think about if you’re forgetting anything! Good luck and God Bless!

  5. Super helpful, thank you and congrats!
