What It’s Really Like Being an Instagram Husband

Hey friends! 👋 Daniel here.  A few weeks ago, Daryl-Ann’s assistant, Lyssa, shared what it’s like working for a fashion blogger, so we thought we’d continue the series but take it one step further today with what it’s like to be married to a fashion blogger.  Aka what it’s like being an “Instagram Husband.”

I think one of the funniest parts about being married to a blogger is when someone asks what your wife does for work.  When I respond with, “She’s a fashion blogger,” I normally get one of two types of responses from people. The most common response is a look like “Oh, that’s cute
your wife has a hobby, not a job.”  Or, the person has no idea what that is or how it can actually be a job that makes money and has a hundred follow-up questions.

The fact is, blogging is more than a full-time job. It does not stop. It does not turn off after 8 hours, and there is always something more that we can be doing.  This coupled with Daryl-Ann’s personality is the perfect fit. Daryl-Ann does not stop. She is an achiever to the bone. She rarely sits on the couch to rest, because there is always something she could be working on or another item that she can check off her list. In fact, I had to practically drag her out of the house before we were going to the hospital to be induced to have Rhett, because she was working on linking things for a blog post.

The “Instagram Husband” title is a very real thing.

I have taken my fair share of photos as an Instagram husband.  And by fair share, let’s just say that Daryl-Ann has over 100,000 photos on her camera roll.  And that is not an exaggeration.

I have been in the most awkward positions, in the weirdest places, but we got the shot!  Here is a typical shoot rundown.  Daryl-Ann feeds off good energy and in case you ever want to take photos with her, I advise you don’t get in a fight right before. The photos will turn out like crap, not that I am speaking from experience or anything. If I can turn some music on or she really is loving her hair that day, I already know that we are going to kill that shoot.  Once we find a location, we take our standard shots: full body, crops, walking crops, and chunky details as we like to call them.  (We didn’t realize how ridiculous those sounded until we actually typed them out).  After that is where it always gets interesting. We review the photos and Daryl-Ann’s feedback usually sounds something like: Do it the same, but a little higher
okay a little lower
Does my face look dumb?…Do you think we have a good one?
 Yes, babe they look great
. Okay cool! Just take another 150 more and then we will be good. Haha!

We shoot a lot in public places, and it is so funny to see the weird looks that we get. I am thoroughly convinced that people really must not be in tune with their facial expressions because they will be walking by and come to complete stop to stare and try to figure out what we are doing. The looks we get are incredible
I think we should start an Instagram Story series on it!  She also shoots all over our home, so it is hard not to end up awkwardly walking across the back of the video. She stops and stories everywhere. So, a lot of the times I am just outside the screen waiting for her story to end to get by to get a drink of water.

Aside from being the photographer, I work alongside Daryl-Ann with the back-end of her business, basically all the stuff you guys don’t see. I help her with planning her monthly content calendar and then how we will execute all the shoots. We dream and set goals together for future collaborations as well as ways that we can provide value to you guys, our friends as we always call you. We plan content around what you want to see and what content will be most valuable to you. I also review contracts and help Daryl-Ann and Lyssa with negotiations.

Daryl-Ann is awesome to work with, we complement each other so well and we really speak the same language.  She is the best partner in business and in life. Ultimately, I am passionate about growing businesses and it is what I love to do. It’s on my mind all the time and although Daryl-Ann loves the benefit of this passion and supporting me in what I love, I frequently have to catch myself from talking about work when we are out at a nice dinner. I generally will say something like, “I know I am not supposed to talk about this but, I have a good idea,” or, “Just one last thing!”  I love what I do at both our companies and my dream is to be an investor/business-flipper kind of like the people on Shark Tank.

Lastly, I support her as best as I can. I am passionate about her dreams and her vision and I want her to achieve all her desires. She helps me and pushes me. She sacrifices for me every day, and even more since having Rhett. So, with all that I want to thank you, friends, for supporting Daryl-Ann and reading her blog and helping make her dreams come true.

Until next time, friends!  –Daniel

I actually have chills reading this!! Because he reminds me so much of my husband. I know that my blog wouldn’t be possible without him and his “entrepreneurial” mind haha, this was so fun to read, thanks for sharing!!

P.s. glad to know I’m not the only one who gets in her fight with her husband right Before we take pictures 😘 ha!
