Winter Skincare Routine

It’s been a hot minute since I shared my skincare routine with you guys, and I’ve gotten tons of requests for an update!  I’ve been sharing a lot about my skin on Instagram Stories lately and how concerned I have been with it for the past 6 months to a year.  Mid-twenties is when everyone says you start to develop wrinkles and see your skin age, so I have been doing everything I can to prevent that and keep my skin young!  Today I’m sharing the products I’ve found and have adopted into my updated winter skincare routine and breaking down when I use them and why I love them!

Several of the products in my routine are from TULA, and they are offering my readers 20% off a free shipping through the whole holiday season with code ‘DARYLANNHOLIDAY.’  They aren’t sponsoring this post or me at all, I just have used and loved their products for a long time and love them.  AND they’re giving away three full-size versions of my favorite products to a reader below, so make sure you enter!

Morning Routine

Step One: Cleanse

I use the TULA ‘Purifying Face Cleanser’ both morning and night.  It’s perfect for sensitive skin and doesn’t strip all moisture if you have dry skin like I do.  I have tried so many cleansers, and this one is by far my favorite.  I’ve repurchased it at least five times!  And for the size, it is a great buy.

Step Two: Serum

If you’ve been following my Instagram Stories lately, I’ve been talking lots about my issues with dark spots and pigmentation.  It’s the main thing about my skin that bothers me, and what I’m working the hardest to get rid of.  My dermatologist recommended this SkinMedica Lytera 2.0 lightening serum to help fade and lighten my dark spots.  I’ve been using this in the mornings, along with going to get laser treatments in his office.  The laser treatment I’m getting is called the Clear + Brilliant and is a series of three sessions.  Last week was my second treatment.  (Follow along on Instagram Stories to hear more about these because I talk about them often over there!)

Step Three: Hydrate

When I went to my dermatologist for skin help a few months ago, I expressed how frustrated I was with my dry skin.  He explained that just moisturizing wasn’t enough for super dry skin.  This SkinMedica hydrator actually gets into the cell level and hydrates them rather than just asking moisture.  It is a product I don’t think I will ever go without now!  If you have dry skin, you have to implement this into your routine ASAP!

Step Four: Moisturize

In the mornings, I add a moisturizer on top of the hydrator (hello, dry skin!).  I use the TULA Hydrating Day + Night Cream because it’s “lightweight” for my skin.  If you don’t have dry skin, this may be a bit much and you would probably be able to get away with just the hydrator and no additional moisturizer.

Step Five: Sunscreen

With wanting to prevent wrinkles and get rid of dark spots, sunscreen is an absolute must for me!  My dermatologist told me to be sure that whatever sunscreen I used had Zinc Oxide in it, and this one does and is SPF 50+.  I buy it HERE on Amazon, and love it.  It is tinted when it comes out of the bottle but goes on clear.  Trust me, Daniel uses it and he definitely would not if it had any tint at all…haha!

Step Six: Primer

Before I put my makeup on, I finish off my skincare routine with this hydrating primer.  Are you sensing a pattern here?  (Dry skin=hydrating everything 😉)  But in all honesty, putting a barrier between all my helpful and protective skincare and makeup is an essential step for me.  I have used this Too Faced primer for a long time and love it!

Nighttime Routine

Step One: Cleanse & Remove Makeup

The same TULA cleanser I use in my morning routine, I use to cleanse my face and take off all my makeup at night.  I no longer have to use makeup wipes and I LOVE it!  This cleanser takes off every stitch of my makeup.

Step Two: Tone

Acne has been something I’ve struggled with for years.  And even ore so in my adult life than teens unfortunately.  However, TULA has been a lifesaver when it comes to my acne.  This Pro-Gylcolic pH Resurfacing Gel in particular is what I notice keeps it under control.  I apply one squirt of it to a cotton pad and apply it in a thin layer over my entire face at night.

Step Three: Hydrate

After the toner, I apply the SkinMedica HA 5 Hydrator to my skin again.  I am obsessed with this stuff and can’t get enough!!

Step Four: Eyes

Keeping with the wrinkle prevention trend, eye cream has been something I have implemented into my routine the past year or so.  Currently I am using this SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair cream per my dermatologist’s recommendation.  Honestly I don’t notice much of a difference between this and the TULA eye cream.  I love both!

Step Five: Moisturize

At night I like to apply a thicker moisturizer, especially in the winter months.  I was using the TULA moisturizer both morning and night, but during colder months I tend to need the additional moisture.  In the back of my cabinet, I found this Ponds Dry Skin cream that I bought a long time ago at Target.  I used it and have loved having it in my routine the past couple months!  It is seriously gold!

Note: You can see the difference between the two moisturizers in the photos above.  The TULA moisturizer is on the left and the Ponds cream is on the right.

Weekly

Once a week, I use these TULA Dual-Phase Skin Reviving Treatment Pads.  After cleansing, you take the white, smooth side of the pad and rub the serum all over your face.  Then, flip it over and use the blue side to exfoliate and massage the serum gently into your skin for 1-2 minutes.  After, your skin will be glowing like you just left a facial!!  These are amazing and with 16 in a box, they will last a long time.

Whenever I’m having a breakout or just want to jumpstart my skin, I use TULA’s Exfoliating Treatment Mask for about 20 minutes after washing my face at night.  If i have a tough blemish that won’t go away, I also use this as a spot treatment overnight.  It is great for acne!

To kick off the holidays the right way, TULA is giving away my three favorite full-size products to one lucky reader: the Purifying Face Cleanser, Pro-Glycolic 10% pH Resurfacing Gel, and Hydrating Day + Night Cream!  Enter below!  The more items you check off, the more entries you have!  Be sure to check Instagram because we are giving more away over there 😉.

Hope this helps you find a product to solve a skincare issue you may currently be having!  I swear by each and every one of these, and would recommend every single one of them.  Do you use any of these or have any you swear by in your routine?  Let me know in the comments!
