This year one of my goals was to read (at least) ten books.  This month I have started and finished one and am partway through my second!  I shared one of the books I was reading on Instagram and got several requests to share others that were on my list for the year, so today I’m sharing the 10 books I’m reading in 2018.  It’s a mixture of novels, self-help, and Christian books, but my favorite types of books to read are historical fiction (primarily based during World War II).

1. Once We Were Brothers by Ronald H Balson

This was the first book I completed this year, and I read it so fast because I could not put it down!  It’s about two young Polish boys in the late 1930’s, one that comes from a Jewish family and another from a German family.  They end up being raised together, but when the Nazi’s invade Poland you wonder if the German boy will betray his new Jewish family.  This one will keep you on your toes the entire time, and the ending was not at all what I was expecting!

2. You are a Badass by Jen Sincero

I’m currently in the middle of this book, and I can say with confidence if you want to be better at what you do, how you feel, and how you interact with others…you have to read this book!  Jen Sincero helps you stop doubting your greatness and helps you discover how to create the money, relationships, and life that you desire to have.  She writes it from a funny perspective that it makes this “self-help” book not boring at all.

3. One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This is next on my fiction book list.  It’s about a woman whose husband dies in a helicopter crash and after a while, she finds love again.  She gets engaged to a man, and later finds out her husband is still alive and has been looking for her all along.  I can’t wait to read this one!

4. One Year Bible

Our church has encouraged everyone to read through the One Year Bible together, so Daniel and I recently decided to do it.  While we didn’t start on January 1^st, I’m still excited to finally read through the entire Bible!  I’ve never done it, and it’s always been a goal of mine.  2018 is the year!  If you are interested in it as well, this specific bible is only $13 and breaks it apart by date.  It mixes the Bible up so you aren’t just reading it in order, but get different things every day.

5. The Secret Life of Violet Grant by Beatriz Williams

This book is one someone recommended to me that they said was super suspenseful and they couldn’t put down.  From what I have read, it’s about a young woman who finds out about an aunt in Europe she didn’t know about.  This isn’t something I would typically read but because of how much it was recommended, and the high ratings it has, I want to give it a try!

6. Saving Sophie by Ronald H. Balson

The first book I ever read by Ronald H. Balson was Once We Were Brothers, but because I loved it so much I am so excited to read this one!  It’s a completely different storyline, but two of the characters that were introduced in that book are also a part of the storyline of Saving Sophie.  It’s also a World War II centered novel, which I can’t get enough of!

7. Wild and Free by Jess Connolly & Hayley Morgan

My goal this year is to mix in “self-help” and Christian books with novels.  In the past I’ve found that I try to read too many non-fiction books and then just end up not reading altogether because it’s never simply just “for fun.”  So while I want to balance it more, I am really excited about reading this book.  The synopsis is “A hope-filled anthem for the woman who feels she is both too much and never enough.”  That couldn’t describe how I feel more accurately, and so I can’t wait for the opportunity to learn from this book!

8. The Identicals by Elin Hilderbrand

Every once in a while, I like to read a “girly” book (usually by the pool in the Summer!).  This year I want to read The Identicals.  I don’t know too much about it, and I’ve never read a book by Elin Hilderbrand, but from the summary I know it’s about two identical two sisters that live on Nantucket & Martha’s Vineyard and switch islands and lives for the Summer.  Sounds like a super fun read for a vacation…now I just need the vacation…haha!

9. The Orphan’s Tale by Pam Jenoff

Pam Jenoff is my all-time favorite author.  She primarily writes historical fiction novels based in the World War II time period (I know, shocking why she would be my favorite…haha!).  I have read all of her books, but this one is her newest and I haven’t had time to read it.  If you have never read one of her books, my favorites are The Diplomat’s Wife and The Kommandant’s Girl.

10. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

I’ve seen this book recommended so much, I just never was captivated by the title.  But when I was looking into what books I wanted to put on my list to read this year, I decided to look into this one when I saw it again.  It’s the first book of Kevin Kwan’s trilogy, and is going to be made into a movie this year!  The main character doesn’t realize that her boyfriend’s family is extremely wealthy until she gets off the plane to spend a Summer with them in Singapore.  I think it will end up being a super funny and light read for the Summer time!
