You guys, this might be my favorite post to date. It’s not every day I get Daniel in front of the camera, and if you’ve been following my blog for a while now you know he is actually always the one behind the camera. And he’s looking pretty handsome, if I do say so myself 😉
When we got married four years ago, I took over all shopping duties for both of us (without complaint I might add). With his job, he doesn’t have to dress up too much and usually wears a button up, jeans, and a nice pair of shoes.
I can clearly remember the first time I brought home a pair of designer jeans for him, and up until that point he could never understand why in the world I would spend so much money on them…until he got his own. I definitely created a monster with that one 😉.
He is pretty particular about his clothing and will only wear slim fit shirts (J. Crew is our bestie for that one), designer jeans (smart man), and Johnston & Murphy dress shoes (this is not a joke).
I always keep Daniel in the loop about what’s going on with the blog and what future plans and collaborations that are coming up, so when Johnston & Murphy came to me a few months ago to partner on their new Fall/Winter line for women I knew I had to ask them if he could be involved, too. Organic partnerships are so important to me (you’ll never see me partner with a brand I wouldn’t go out and purchase on my own!), and there truly couldn’t be one more organic than this!
Honestly, you have never met a man that has such a devotion to a shoe company in your life than my husband with Johnston & Murphy. He says their dress shoes are as comfortable as Nikes, and I’m not even exaggerating when I say he will literally wear nothing else. We’ve been looking for a nice black pair for him to wear to work with jeans, but that could still be dressed up even more, so when he saw the Hannigan Cap Toe he knew they totally fit the bill!
I’ve always been so focused on finding him shoes whenever we shop there that I feel like I have blinders on to the whole women’s section of the store. But when I was looking through their lookbook for Fall, I kept thinking to myself, “Why have I not tried these before?? They are so cute!” I’m obsessed Brianna Buckle Bootie for Fall. How cute will they look even dressed down with an oversized sweater and jeans?
The other night after work, I met up with Daniel and we went out on our weekly date night, and since he was wearing this outfit it sparked the idea for this post! After being married for a year, we noticed the monotony of “get up, go to work, come home, make dinner, watch TV, go to bed,” was kind of driving us crazy. Ever since then, we have implemented weekly date nights and it has totally cured this. We go out on Thursdays because it jumpstarts our weekend and definitely makes it feel longer.
Your spouse is your boyfriend/girlfriend for the rest of your life, so having fun together is so important! So I wanted to share a few tips we have implemented to keep dating each other special:
Dress Up
When we were dating, going out automatically felt special, but it can easily lose that spark when you get married and I am more than guilty of just wanting to leave the house and go to our usual spot in jeans and a hoodie. But when I started to feel our weeks getting monotonous, Daniel encouraged me to get dressed up for date night (nothing crazy, just like what I’m wearing here…essentially not a hoodie 😉). And it totally works!
Try a New Spot
Especially on weeknights it can be easy for us to want to just stay local and head to our usual places, but breaking out and trying something new is always so fun for us (even if we don’t like the food..haha we are such picky eaters!). Our favorite areas around here are Downtown Pasadena, The Americana at Brand, and The Grove, all of which provide shopping to go along with dinner…coincidence?!
Put Your Phones Away
I am the biggest culprit on this (definitely something I am working on), but I always notice couples at tables around us where they are both on their phones the entire dinner. Daniel and I are going to be married for a long time, and I never want us to run out of things to talk about. Putting our phones away at dinner and talking is a habit I never want us to break!
What kinds of things do you like doing for date night?
I love this! So fun to get to include your man on your blog. I also think dating your spouse is so important. Marriage is hard and it's so important to keep that romance alive. Great post!
My favorite post as well! Such great tips, even for someone who hasn't been with their boyfriend and/or spouse for that long! You should definitely do more posts like this! xo Jordyn
Good photos, you naturally looks at the photo. Complement each other. I met a girl http://dreamrussianbrides.com/relationships-with-russian-lady/. Going on to say that this is now my wife. We chatted online for a long time, and then I invited her to visit. Our first date was on the boat, where we have done an excellent photo session. After viewing the photos I decided that this is my other half and I do not want to lose her. Photos showed me the beauty of our couples. Thank you for reminding me about this.
