Happy Monday friends!  Can you even believe that we are a couple of days away from November?!  This last bit of the year is going to fly by, and if you’re like our family I’m sure you’re already thinking about what to wear for family photos.  This year, Daniel and I are actually going to be using a photo from our maternity shoot for our Christmas card, but I wanted to share a few tips in case you’re planning a couples photoshoot in the next couple months.  You could easily use these same tips for a whole family!

Pick a color scheme

Gone are the days where family photos have to be white tees and jeans!  You can pretty much shoot any color scheme you want.  My favorite way to come up with ideas is to search “family photoshoot color scheme.”  Tons of paired color swatches will come up that you can get great ideas from.  Some of my favorites are this one and this one.  If you need more Inso, here are a ton of great color schemes!

Incorporate Pieces You’ll Wear Again

Buying everyone an outfit just to wear once for photos is so silly.  And in my opinion, outfits you would actually wear in real life look best in photos!  When we were shopping for these outfits, I knew I wanted Daniel to wear a patterned shirt he could wear to work after the fact.  One of his favorite brands for affordable dress shirts is Nordstrom Men’s Shop, and so that’s where I looked first.  When I came across this burgundy plaid button-up, I knew it would look super cute next to a plain burgundy dress.  I found this one for me for under $25 and I love how the ribbed texture adds an extra something to the photos without being a clashing pattern.

If you’re stumped on where to start, definitely check out the shirts from the Nordstrom Men’s Shop!  They’re super affordable and I know Daniel will wear this one over and over with work pants to the office.  Often times, once you find your patterned piece, you can build a whole family’s outfit around it like I did here.  If you have kiddos, incorporating navy blue, white, and beige would be super easy from here!

Here are more of our favorites from the Nordstrom Men’s Shop!

Mix Textures & Patterns

I kind of spilled this one, but mixing textures and patterns really adds so much to a family photo!  If you are wanting to add a pattern to build off of, pick that first and then add in solids of coordinating colors.  If it’s a bold pattern, add texture to other family member’s outfits!  A chunky knit photographs super cute and ruffles look adorable on little girls!  If you’re wanting an all solid look for your family photos, my suggestion would be to just add texture to break it up.  A puffer vest, knit scarf, etc. all will add so much without having to add in a pattern.

If you’re still stumped on what to wear, I put together another outfit idea I think would be super cute!  I love the black and white check pattern on the scarf and think it would add so much to photos.  You could also add in so many different colors from here to incorporate every member of your family!

Thanks to Nordstrom for sponsoring today’s post!  As always, all opinions and selections are my own.
