Stretch mark lotions and creams are everywhere when you’re pregnant! During my first trimester, I did so much research on which was best, what ingredients to look for, and what actually was going to work. There were mixed reviews on just about everything, so I decided to ask my best friend who had just had her second baby and had no stretch marks. She had come up with this homemade stretch mark prevention balm based on even more research than I did, and pretty much put all the ingredients that could possibly prevent them into one balm. Genius!
Stretch marks run on both sides of my family and I had heard so many times that there was nothing you could do to prevent them. But that did not stop me from trying! 😉 And I feel so grateful to report that throughout my entire pregnancy I got ZERO stretch marks! So needless to say, between this stretch mark lotion, drinking a lot of water, and about a million prayers, I truly believe you can help prevent them.
As far as application goes, I applied this to my whole stomach every night, starting at about 18 weeks. That was when I started to gain enough weight that I wasn’t fitting in my normal clothes or jeans anymore and I figured it was the right time to start preventing them. After I applied it, I would wear one of these tank tops and a pair of these pajama pants to bed every night. Just a heads up: whatever pajamas you wear with this balm will be ruined, and it will leave obvious oil stains on any other color than black. I rotated through about 7 different sets of pajamas throughout my pregnancy and did laundry once a week, since you can only wear them one night. The balm turns into an oil on your skin and absorbs into the fabric of the clothes. To me, the price of cheap pajamas was worth not getting stretch marks, but I definitely want to give you the warning!
The only other time I would apply the stretch mark balm was after a shower. My skin tends to get extra dry after showering or bathing, and so I always made sure to apply it afterward. I would wait until it absorbed into my skin while I was getting ready, and wipe off any excess, before putting on my clothes for the day!
To make a jar of this balm takes about 10 minutes total and all the ingredients are super natural! I would make two jars at a time, and each jar lasted me about 3-4 weeks. If you try it out, let me know how it works for you because I know I will definitely be using it with every future pregnancy!!
