Styled by Stitch Fix

I’m sure it comes at no surprise that I absolutely love shopping.  Leave me in a dressing room at the mall for two hours, or with my computer planted on the couch to online shop all Sunday afternoon, and I’m a happy camper.  At the same time, I fully recognize that this isn’t this case for everyone…my own mom isn’t even this way!  Every time I go over to her house, she asks me to come up to her closet and help her put outfits together and to show her what looks cute.

And while having a personal stylist may be a dream of her’s and so many others, it honestly just isn’t practical (let alone, affordable!).  Enter: Stitch Fix.  Stitch Fix is a online personal styling service where every shipment is catered to you.  A personal stylist will send you five items in each box (or “Fix”) that are tailored to your style, budget, and needs as often as you want. No more trips to the mall if your schedule is too busy, or horrible dressing room mirrors because you’ll get to try everything on at home with pieces you already have in your closet.  Whatever you don’t like, just ship back because shipping both ways is free!

I was so excited to come home from the rewardStyle conference a couple of weeks ago, because I knew my Fix was at home waiting for me!  Before I even unpacked, I opened the box and saw these two dresses that I immediately fell in love with.  I styled this embroidered boho dress with these super cute cognac sandals (that also came in my Fix!) and my favorite matching bag I already had in my closet.  This would make the perfect Summer date night outfit, as well as the perfect option for a baby or bridal shower.  And is this one shoulder embroidered chambray dress not the absolute perfect vacation dress?  We have a Hawaii trip planned, and I will definitely take it to throw over my suit by the pool. as well as wear out to dinner like I styled it here!

I had described my style to the stylist beforehand, and I really feel like she captured it in each piece she sent.  Having had the experience, I wanted to give you a few tips on scheduling your first fix!

Tips For Getting Your Best Fix

Leave (very) Detailed Notes

Before placing the order for your first Fix, you will have to fill out a Style Profile where you give your stylist information on sizing, what types of fabrics you like, your budget, and your overall style.  Don’t worry if you’re unsure how to describe your style in words because there are pictures!  At the end of the profile, there’s a spot to leave notes that will be personally delivered to your stylist.  Make sure to tell her if you have any events you have coming up that you may want to see pieces for, what brands you like, as well as what you don’t want to see!  From experience, I’ve seen that the stylists really rely on these notes from you.

Pin Inspiration to a Pinterest Board

On your Style Profile, there’s a spot to leave your stylist a link to a Pinterest board you’ve created.  Your stylist can then get a visual idea of what types of clothing you like and what you want to receive.  If you follow Stitch Fix on Pinterest, you can pin pieces they have in stock as well, so that your stylist can try to send you those.  Make sure to also let them know in your note if you see something specific you want to try.  If you love either of these dresses as much as I did, pin one of these photos to your Pinterest board and let your stylist know!

Leave Feedback when Returning Items

When you receive your Fix in the mail, there will be a prepaid return envelope to mail back the items you didn’t love.  You can then go online and leave notes to your stylist as to why you didn’t like each piece, or if maybe that specific brand did not fit you well.  This helps significantly for the next time they go to style you!  The idea is that (with your feedback!) your fixes will get better and better each time!
