Every time Summer comes around, one of my favorite closet basics to pull out is a t-shirt dress. They are the absolute easiest thing to wear and are so comfortable no matter how hot it gets. I used to have a hard time wearing them outside of the house because I felt like they looked too much like pajamas, but once I figured out how to style one it quickly became my favorite thing to wear! Who doesn’t want to feel like they are wearing pajamas, but look cute at the same time? So today I am sharing my favorite tips on how to style a t-shirt dress!
My number one tip for styling t-shirt dresses is to create some sort of waistline. They can often look super plain and boring without adding that “something else” and often times simply tying a jacket around your waist does just the trick. Not only does it break up the solid piece of fabric that can be really boring, but it also creates a pretty waistline on the simple silhouette of the t-shirt dress.
Not only does doing this create a really pretty, feminine shape but it also serves a double purpose: when it gets chilly at night, you already have a jacket to throw on! I am absolutely loving this white denim jacket that I picked up at Target the other day for only $30. I recently ordered this Free People denim jacket as well, and the cropped fit is so cute over dresses and rompers for Summer. I’m obsessed with it!
My second tip for styling t-shirt dresses is to keep it casual! They are one of the most casual, easy going pieces and really don’t look cute dressed up. In my opinion, they look best when you capitalize on how casual they are by throwing on a pair of sneakers and a baseball cap! It really is the most perfect Saturday combo and looks so cute and effortless. And you don’t have to wash your hair on a Saturday…win-win!

I have an almost identical look on my Instagram! I love to tie my jean jacket around my wait with a shirt dress. I think I’ll head to Old Navy today to see if they have any solid colored shirt dresses in store, I want a pink one or maybe green.
