How to Tie a Blanket Scarf [with a Video!]

If you’ve been following on Instagram, or reading along here for any time at all, I am sure you are well aware that I wear a ton of blanket scarves…they are most definitely one of my weaknesses!  They take a plain outfit of jeans and a tee, and make it cute instantly.  They also double as cozy blankets for car rides, movies, dinner, etc.  Coming from someone who is always cold, they’re pretty much awesome!

Recently I have been asked a lot how I tie mine, and so I thought I would do a mini tutorial!  They can really be huge and uncomfortable if you don’t know how to tie them correctly, but once you learn, they’re so easy to wear and not “all up in your face,” if you know what I mean πŸ˜‰  Below are photos of each step, as well as a video at the bottom of the post [!!!!] because I feel like seeing it done is worth more than any photos or words!  [And I apologize in advance for any awkwardness in the video…it’s my first one!]

Also!! This tutorial is for a SQUARE blanket scarf…most of them out there are square, but I do have one that is a rectangle.  If you are new to blanket scarves, stick to square!  In my opinion, they are much easier to tie and wear.  Rectangle ones take a lot of adjusting and there’s no “formula” to tying them, if you will. [At least not that I have found!]

At the bottom of the post, I linked  my current favorite blanket scarves [all under $50!]…Check them out!

 [ See?! SQUARE! πŸ™‚ ]
Step One:  Grab the diagonal corners and fold in half.  Don’t match up the points just perfectly, but a bit off-centered.  I think it looks best once it’s done if you do it this way, but experiment for yourself, too!
Outfit Details: Top // Jeans // Scarf // Boots // Necklace // Watch // Gold Bracelet // Silver Bracelet
Step Two:  Grab the corners/tails, put them up behind your head, and cross them in the back, taking the one that was in your right hand and putting it in your left, and vice versa.
Step Three:  Pull the two tails down and tighten to wear you want the scarf to be around your neck.  Then tuck them underneath the bulk of the scarf so they are hidden.  Blanket scarves look best when the tails cannot be seen and it just looks like one piece (in my personal opinion!).
Step Four: Adjust the scarf so it sits/lays how you like it.  Make sure once you are done that the tails are still underneath the scarf.  (I end up checking and adjusting them throughout the day, too!)
[And, I am sorry, but I had the cutest helper who just wanted to be in the photos too ;)]
I have also worn blanket scarves in so many Instagram posts (@darylanndenner)!
And last, but not least, here is the video for all your viewing pleasure πŸ˜‰
Thanks for stopping by!  Let me know if you have any questions about any of the steps!!  I would absolutely love to help you out!!!  Below are my favorite blanket scarves!  xoxo
